Shakespeare In London

This unique guided tour is for lovers of William Shakespeare, the world’s greatest playwright as well as for anyone interested in Elizabethan London. Very walkable half day tour lets you experience: the famous Ferryman’s Seat, site of the Rose Theatre, site of the original Globe Theatre, ruins of Winchester Palace, a walk by the original Clink Prison, visit to Southwark Cathedral with its beautiful Shakespeare stained glass window and official tour of the splendid Globe Theatre built by the American playwright Sam Wanamaker. Let your personal guide show you lanes walked by the great Bard, church pews where he worshiped and pubs where he drank with fellow actors.

We stop half way through the tour at the smart cafe in the Cathedral, so that tour guests can partake of tea, coffee, pastries, etc.  Tour does include the Globe Theatre’s in-house tour. This tour is not meant to be a literary tour per se, although you will learn more about what Shakespeare wrote. It is meant to be more about the social history of the Elizabethan times and Shakespeare’s remarkable role as actor, playwright and theatrical producer. For example, did you know that the River Thames was the local freeway used by everyone at the time, including Shakespeare. The drivers were the famous ferrymen depicted in such films as ” Shakespeare in Love “. And so if you have always wanted to learn more about what it was really like in Shakespearean London, come along with us on this unique half day tour. Runs daily.

” Our guide’s knowledge of Shakespeare’s life and works,
